Carbon stored in Elizabeth Township forest will help pay for its preservation

March 21, 2021

In partnership with the local community, Allegheny Land Trust (ALT) is working to preserve and protect ~126 acres of woodlands in southeastern Allegheny County. Surrounded by rapidly encroaching residential development, the hilltop plateau and surrounding slopes reside entirely within the lower Youghiogheny River Watershed, just ten miles upstream from the City of Pittsburgh. The project area is fully platted for residential development and, without the intervention of this project, would have been converted to a subdivision with more than 150 homes.
