Prince Edward Island Energy Corporation

The Problem

The environmental attribute market is often difficult to navigate, and the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) marketplace is no exception.

The Solution

Bluesource has extensive knowledge and experience in transacting and contracting structures for RECs.

Bluesource can assist with unique needs and challenges related to navigating the REC marketplace.

The Story

The environmental attribute market is often difficult to navigate, and the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) marketplace is no exception.

In 2001, Prince Edward Island (PEI) Energy Corporation constructed the North Cape Wind Farm, Atlantic Canada’s first commercial wind farm, which supplies 9% of the island’s electricity supply. The relationship between PEI and Bluesource began in 2014 when Bluesource started work on behalf of PEI Energy Corporation providing marketing and brokerage services. Bluesource was able to successfully monetize the RECs that were created by the wind farm.

Bluesource has extensive knowledge and experience in transactional situations and contracting structures, including long-term sales contracts for RECs. Each situation is unique and Bluesource has the background to establish sales contracts while still meeting the client-specific contracting requirements. The relationship between PEI and Bluesource was a success because Bluesource was able to secure contracting and pricing via a long-term agreement with a reputable REC buyer, ultimately providing PEI Energy Corp. an incremental, stable revenue stream that would have otherwise been unrealized.
