Blue Source has significant knowledge and experience in developing Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) systems across North America.
Blue Source’s management is in the unique position of having developed, designed, constructed, operated or owned nearly all of the commercially developed, anthropogenic (man-made) CO2-sourced pipelines for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) in North America during the last 20 years. These projects have successfully sequestered carbon dioxide emissions that were previously vented into the atmosphere.
Enhancing Oil Recovery
Injecting vent stack CO2 for enhanced oil recovery (EOR) is a growing solution to addressing our contributions to climate change with the added benefit of stimulating the economy and reducing dependence on imported oil. And we’re protecting our environment and reducing global warming. Using CO2 for enhanced oil recovery gives America access to large, domestic oil resources—potentially more than four times the proven U.S. reserves, or up to 10 full years of our total national consumption, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Enhanced oil recovery is not a new idea. Traditionally oil producers used naturally–occurring underground sourced CO2 to flood oil fields. Why not capture and store CO2 emissions and engage in the carbon economy?
There could be in excess of 80 billion barrels of oil recovered from existing fields using vent stack emissions in enhanced oil recovery, and Blue Source has the experience to bridge the commercial and physical gaps between the CO2 emitters and oil producers to capture this valuable resource.
With our experienced management team and our capital funding through Och-Ziff Capital Management, Blue Source is in the unique position to provide turnkey solutions for CCS projects. We have the access to capital to fund pipeline development ,technical background in capturing the CO2 and experience in developing the commercial agreements between emitters and sequestering parties. We work with you from the beginning during identification and characterization of possible sinks for EOR and non-EOR sequestration sites through marketing the physical CO2 commodity.
Today, we’re helping companies develop new CCS projects that create Verified Emission Reductions (VERs) and are positioned to lead the development of the North American carbon highway.
